Eric Lam is a member of Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC, where he represents lenders and trustees in bankruptcy proceedings. He has published several articles and a book relating to bankruptcy law practice and has been recognized with the Certificate of Merit by the International Association of Insolvency Practitioners for his writing. He was the lecturer for the bankruptcy portion of the semi-annual Iowa Bar Review School and has served as an Adjunct Professor in Bankruptcy at the University of Iowa College of Law, and a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa from 1990 through 2004. He also presents lectures on a variety of bankruptcy topics at local and national seminars.
During law school, Eric was the Managing Editor of the Iowa Law Review and a Board member of the Trial Advocacy Board. He was recognized in the Law Student Opinion Writing Contest and a recipient of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers Award. Eric reads, writes, and speaks Chinese (Cantonese). In 1992, he was one of the first lawyers to be certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification, and from 2001-2003, he served on the American Board of Certification’s Board of Directors. He is a Fellow of the Iowa State Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy. Mr. Lam represents and advises trustees, creditors, and banking institutions on their rights in bankruptcy proceedings and other cases pending throughout the State of Iowa.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 Eric Lam Chairs and Kathleen Kleiman and Lynn Hartman Present at Bankruptcy Seminar On September 18, 2009, Eric Lam, Kathleen Kleiman, and Lynn Hartman were among several presenters at a continuing legal education seminar on bankruptcy in Iowa City. The University of Iowa College of Law sponsored the seminar. Eric Lam chaired the program. Kathleen Kleiman presented on limited liability company interests in bankruptcy. Lynn Hartman presented on bankruptcy fraud issues.

Thursday, April 02, 2009 Firm Attorneys Present Seminar on Banking Issues On April 2, Eric Lam, Lynn Hartman, Jason Steffens, Abbe Stensland, and Lou Ebinger presented a client seminar for banking clients addressing a number of issues.
Eric provided an update on bankruptcy laws and the Uniform Commercial Code, including potential changes to chapter 13 bankruptcies.
Lynn discussed foreclosure options for lenders and recent changes to Iowa foreclosure laws.
Jason spoke on allocation of liability in check fraud issues. He also addressed the retention and destruction of electronically stored information.
Abbe outlined a creditor's ability to utilize Iowa's small claims court procedures.
Lou discussed procedures for properly documenting collateral for secured loans.
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 Eric Lam elected Vice Chair of Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission At its regular meeting held on January 21, 2009, Eric Lam was elected Vice Chair of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission. The Commission is tasked with enforcing Chapter 69 of the Cedar Rapids Municipal Code, and is composed of eleven members appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. Membership on the Commission is to be broadly representative of the City’s population and have diverse gender, racial, ethnic, and religious representation. Eric was appointed to the Commission by the City Council in the Summer of 2008. |
