Our History
Simmons Perrine PLC was founded in 1916 by James H. Trewin, Haven Y. Simmons and Harold R. Trewin and has played an important role in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa legal and business communities since that time. As one of the largest law firms in eastern Iowa, our firm provides comprehensive legal services to individuals, small and large businesses, banks, manufacturers, newspapers, engineers, physicians, attorneys, utilities, developers, governmental entities, entrepreneurs, contractors, insurance companies, large international corporations and many others. Our firm consists of two practice groups: business and litigation.

Client Services
Consistent with our goal of providing quality, comprehensive representation at a reasonable cost, Simmons Perrine PLC offers all clients able staff support and up-to-date technical assistance. Fees for legal services are commensurate with the type of service provided. The firm generally charges for professional legal services monthly, based on an hourly rate for each attorney which takes into account the attorney’s experience and expertise in a particular legal matter. Other factors may be considered as well, such as the complexity of the matter involved or the result obtained. Where appropriate, the client may choose to retain the firm on a contingent fee basis.

Our attorneys are assisted by a loyal, conscientious and hard-working support staff. We regularly update our computer network hardware and software to maintain a high level of technological efficiency. Simmons Perrine PLC has a complete law library and makes extensive use of CD-ROMs, the Internet and other computerized legal research services. State-of-the-art technology is employed for conflict-of-interest checks, client billing, accounting, trial preparation, estate planning systems and scheduling. In all cases, the client reimburses the firm for out-of-pocket expenses. We will be happy to discuss the terms of any fee agreement in advance of the client retaining our services.
