J. Scott Bogguss is a member of Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC where he is engaged primarily in a general practice, including but not limited to, Business Law, Trusts & Estates, Taxation, Pension & Profit Sharing Plans, Corporate Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance, and Agricultural Law. Prior to joining the firm Mr. Bogguss was a member of the Cedar Rapids firm of Moyer & Bergman, PLC. and served several terms in that firm’s management and as Chair of its Business & Tax Department.

Mr. Bogguss’s practice concentration includes providing tax, estate and general business law counsel to a wide variety of closely held businesses and their owners. His general activities include initial organization and reorganization of business entities to accomplish the financial, tax planning, management and other objectives of the owners and managers of such entities. His work also frequently involves the design and implementation of estate, pension, business succession and executive compensation plans. His experience includes transactional work in mergers, acquisitions and secured lending. Mr. Bogguss also represents business and individual clients with respect to disputed income tax matters.

Mr. Bogguss is active in the community, serving on several charitable institution boards of directors, including the Cedar Rapids Symphony Foundation, past Chair of the St. Luke’s Health Care Foundation and as Chair of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. He is listed in Woodward-White’s peer-selected publication “Best Lawyers in America” in the law areas of taxation, trusts & estates and employee benefits.

Four Firm Attorneys Receive New Best Lawyers Recognition

Scott Bogguss elected Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel

The Board of Regents of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC), based in Washington, D.C., has elected Scott Bogguss a fellow of the College. To be nominated for election, an individual must have been in the practice of law for at least ten years, devoting substantial time to tax and tax-related matters. The individual must also have demonstrated an exceptional degree of professional commitment to the practice of tax law. There are currently only approximately 700 lawyers who are Fellows of the College.

Scott Bogguss Appointed Chair of ISBA Tax Section

J. Scott Bogguss has been appointed to serve as Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association Tax Section for the upcoming fiscal year July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.

The Tax Section sponsors the Bloethe Tax School each December, which is commonly attended by several hundred lawyers from all over Iowa. The section also sponsors the Spring Tax Institute each May and participates in the ISBA’s activities regarding legislative assistance in federal and state tax matters affecting all Iowans.
