Larry Gutz is counsel with Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC, where he attends to trial matters of broadly varying character and scope. His principal area of practice is in the commercial litigation arena, but he also practices extensively in the United States Bankruptcy court system, principally throughout the Midwestern United States, representing institutional and individual creditors.

 

Admitted to the Bar in 1964, Mr. Gutz first served in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General Group during the Vietnam War. After practicing privately in the Cedar Rapids area from 1968 through 1976, he joined the firm of Moyer & Bergman in 1977, and served as its managing partner for approximately 18 years.

 

Mr. Gutz has been listed for over 20 years in “The Best Lawyers in America” published by Woodward-White, Inc.

 

Creditors Rights and Bankruptcy. Mr. Gutz advises individual creditors and institutional lenders on their rights and remedies in proceedings before the United States Bankruptcy Court, as well as cases pending in state court throughout the State of Iowa.

 

Family Law. Mr. Gutz provides counsel to individuals in matters involving child custody, child and spousal support, and marital asset and debt division. He has experience in dealing with marital estates involving active business ventures and significant property holdings.

 

Commercial Litigation. Mr. Gutz delivers advice and litigation assistance to clients in need of business problem resolution, such as contract dispute matters or account collections. He also has experience in the personal injury field, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, with an emphasis on motor carrier cases.

Firm Hosts Collaborative Family Law Seminar

Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC hosted a seminar on collaborative family law on March 11-12, 2010. The seminar presenters were Stuart Webb and Ronald Ousky. Mr. Webb founded collaborative law in 1990 and the two have authored a book entitled THE COLLABORATIVE WAY TO DIVORCE: The Revolutionary Method that Results in Less Stress, Lower Cost, and Happier Kids – Without Going to Court. Collaborative law is a non-adversarial process that views the issues arising from a divorce (or other family law dispute) as a series of battles to be solved rather than fought. Jake Koller, Allison Heffern, Larry Gutz, Brian Fagan, and Matthew Brandes participated in the seminar.
