Matt Adam is an attorney with Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC where he practices in the Business and Tax Practice Group. He also practices in the Criminal Defense area. Matt is a member of the Johnson County, Linn County, Iowa, and American Bar Associations. Matt also is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Iowa's Henry B. Tippie College of Business where he teaches Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship.

Real Estate. Mr. Adam primarily handles both commercial and residential real estate transactions. In addition he represents clients regarding the legal aspects of various real estate issues including annexation, zoning, real estate development, commercial leases, condominiums and 1031 exchanges.

Commercial Transactions Business Counseling. Mr. Adam advises businesses of all sizes and their members regarding entity organization, operations, governance, and planning, which includes the review, negotiation, and drafting of contracts related to mergers, sales and purchases of assets or stock, reorganizations, redemptions, and buy-sell agreements.

Taxation. Mr. Adam advises individual and business clients regarding the tax aspects of various corporate entity transactions and with respect to the use of pass-through entities including limited liability companies, partnerships, and S corporations.

Mr. Adam received his undergraduate degree from Truman State University, Kirksville, MO, magna cum laude, with a major in finance and minor in economics. He continued his education at the University of Iowa where he received a Master of Business Administration in addition to his Juris Doctorate. While attending graduate school, Matt was President of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and served on the editorial staff of The Journal of Corporation Law. He also worked as an assistant to the Director of the Executive MBA Program at The University of Iowa.

Matt has obtained his private pilot license and enjoys flying, golfing, sports and spending time with his family.

Matt Adam Recipient of "Forty Under 40" Award

Matthew J. Adam has been selected as a 2011 recipient of the Corridor Business Journal's Forty Under 40 award. Each year, the Corridor Business Journal spotlights 40 of the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor's outstanding leaders who have made a significant impact in their business or community early in their careers. This year's recipients will be profiled in the Oct. 24 issue and at an Oct. 27 awards dinner. Other Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman attorneys who have previously received the award are: Nicolas Abou-Assaly, Christine Conover, Paul Morf, David Zylstra, and Tom DeBoom.

Press-Citizen List Matt Adam as "One of Ten to Watch in 2011"

Matt Adam was featured in the January 1, 2011 issue of the Iowa City Press-Citizen as one of its "10 to watch in 2011." The article notes that, "[i]n addition to his work with local law firm Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman, Adam is active with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa City Golf Association. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the UI Tippie School of Business." The Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce itself recently recognized Matt for his contributions to its Total Resource Campaign. Matt and his team sold more than $95,000 in chamber sponsorships and memberships.
