Client's Workers Reject Union Re
In late September, linemen and other technical workers of the Maquoketa Valley Electrical Cooperative, which covers all or parts of six East Central Iowa counties, petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to have the IBEW declared their exclusive bargaining agent. While the law mandates at least a 30% showing of support to hold an election, most petitions are not filed unless upwards of 60% of employees have joined the Petition. On November 9, after the co-op's board and management engaged in a month-long informational campaign, the co-op's workers rejected union representation by more than a 2-1 margin. Paul Gamez named to Task Force for Civil Justice Reform
On August 5, 2010, the Iowa Supreme Court named Paul Gamez to its Task Force for Civil Justice Reform. The task force is charged with studying the strengths and weaknesses of the current processes for resolving civil cases and proposing reforms that will foster prompt, affordable, and high-quality resolution of such cases.
